Loss of Voice
there is a Taoist saying: the sage does not have a mind of his own and takes the mind of the people as his own.
this seems somewhat at odds with the Native American tradition where it is as sacrilegious to voice-over someone as it is to allow yourself to be voiced-over.
let’s attempt to resolve this.
Reclaiming Voice by Breaking Silences
“The fact that we are here and that I speak these words is an attempt to break that silence and bridge some of those differences between us, for it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence. And there are so many silences to be broken.”
- Audre LordeReclaiming Voice by Calling Out the Silence of “Good People”
We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.
– Martin Luther KingReclaiming by Voicing the Deepest of the Deep
what gives the dark its most benevolent sheen? i) the gift of the most becoming, ii) the beginning of the most beguiling, or iii) the revelation of the littlest granulet of light that thrums through inward seeking nights, etched through membranes tiresome but nevertheless the most beautiful?

The little granule of light is that the silence of good people can no longer claim it didn't know. Not anymore.
